Counter

Notice the new counter at the bottom. I went over 999999 and the stupid thing started again at zero so now I have a new 7 digit version.

Fall Theatre

For some reason there's no theatre in Toronto over the summer. This may be changing with DanCap's announcement to bring a revival of South Pacific next summer.
As a result there's a huge influx of theatre opening now. I looked to Eye's latest issue, the fall theatre preview, and found NOTHING useful. They had info on one show, that was the preview. So I'm presenting my (better) version.
October 1 it all begins for me with Jerry Springer: The Musical. I saw this show last year and loved it. It's a can't lose experience.

October 4 is Brad Frasier's True Love Lies. Frasier is a Canadian gay institution and I've never seen anything he's done so I'm looking forward to it. I'm not sure what it will be like, this performance is PWYC.

October 6 I'm seeing the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Ben Elton musical The Boys in the Photograph. The Star review doesn't fill me with anticipation though.

Oct 8 is Altar Boyz. The Star has a great review and this looks to be good fun, even if it is in North York.

A little break for Thansgiving and Oct 16 has Mimi, Or A Poisioner's Comedy. This is part of my season subscription to the Taragon Theatre and has been moved. I was supposed to go earlier but I was sick for weeks with the flu.

Oct 27 has Toxic Avenger: The Musical. Looking forward to seeing the re-vamped Music Hall.
Oct 29, I can't wait for the double bill of Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Hedwig is one of my favourite movies of all time and I've always wanted to see the play.

Nov 5 brings the 2008 Tony Award winner for best play August: Osage County. 2 intermissions???

Nov 6 is the second Taragon show, Rocking the Cradle.

Nov 11 is the Fringe hit My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding. Sounds good and $20 is a great deal.

Finally, on Nov 15 Buddies has the one show of the year I actually wanted to see in their "all women" season, The Silicone Diaries.

I've included the dates I'm going if anyone wants to come with.

And THAT, Eye Weekly, is a fall theatre preview!

Some People Are Crazy

Like Kirk Cameron.

Embrace How You Look

Felling better now, finally!
From the new Attitude magazine, a quote from James St James under the heading "Embrace How You Look":

"If you've got a hump, just throw some glitter on it and go dancing."

Cat and still sick

Still sick, I wonder if I have the H1N1? I heard today the test for it was painful so maybe I'll give that a miss.
Going back to the doctor's tomorrow morning. I've developed a muscle spasm in my right hand that is bothering me. I don't know why. I'm only on the computer about 15 hours a day, and when I'm not I'm playing video games. What could cause strain?
I did manage to get to the dollar store and get a new toy for my cat. Here she is playing with it while sitting in a box.

Fake news

Went to work today but apparently they didn't want someone who was sick and coughing and delirious with fever. They're so picky.
Also I wanted to say I had a dream the other day that I was drafted by the Blue Jays. I went straight to the bigs and had two at bats at Roger's Centre. I didn't get a hit. Then I think I tried to find my baseball card on eBay. I think some of my friends were jealous, but the good ones weren't. I thought it was cool as I never dream and if I do it's never good stuff or normal stuff, always like aliens or radioactive waste or people trying to kill me.
Saw this on the front page of the Metro paper today, check it out (click to enlarge):

Dear Metro
torontoletters@metronews.ca
I am writing about your front page article in today's paper "Stores may face consumer food fight over prices".
I would like you to reconsider your news criteria. This story was a non-story, it was not news, and had no facts to back up your allegations. The quote you ran, from a random Toronto food shopper, indicates that people with low incomes have to shop at cheaper stores like No Frills. This is about low income families and has nothing to do with the economy, it's more like a recommendation for shopping choices. You indicate she is living on a pension, a fixed amount that would not fluctuate whatever the economy was doing. You also indicate that she recently decided to splurge and shop at a Metro store, again contradicting the point of your article that consumers will only choose cheaper food choices.
To close your FRONT PAGE article, you have an American adviser saying stores will have to keep pace with the competition on price, again not newsworthy and something that does not change no matter what the economy.
By shaping the news like this, you're encouraging skepticism in the economy on a foundless basis. Sentences like "Stores MAY face..." and "COULD face pressure from disgruntled shoppers" are baseless.
I would encourage you, as one of the top newspapers in the city, to focus on reporting the news and backing up your sources instead of inventing it.

How can you tell I'm sick?

  • I shut off the air conditioner
  • I put Vicks on my chest
  • I have a fever
  • I have a cough
  • My nose is stuffy
  • My head hurts
  • I am short of breath
  • My body aches
and the number one way you can tell I'm sick....
I only had one iced coffee yesterday.

Pile of Crap

I switched to VOIP, which is phone over the internet, and it is as spotty as a leopard.

I have had really nothing but problems, the most recent was when I was sitting watching TV and looked up and noticed my phone modem was blinking. I spent 5 hours, unplugging it, plugging it back in, and nothing. So right now I don't have a phone.

I plugged the modem into the computer directly and that didn't work at first as I had the computer set up to work with the phone modem. Now I've switched it over to work with the internet directly but I don't really know how to switch it back or what the initial problem was so I'm kind of screwed.

Other problems I've had, the phone just cuts off in the middle of a conversation, like every single conversation, and once it just started ringing for no reason and wouldn't stop. At 3 in the morning. For 3 nights in a row.

Also sometimes the power just shuts itself off.

I want to switch back to a traditional phone line but I think I get the phone portion for free and so it would be another $30. I thought of bundling and going with Rogers for internet and phone but when you go to their website it asks for your postal code and when I put mine in and hit enter, nothing happens.

The only good point is the internet is much faster when it's not being run through the phone first.

I'm totally screwed. I seem doomed to never have a phone. Yipee.
